Baptism
The sacrament of baptism ushers us into the divine life, cleanses us from sin, and initiates us as members of the Christian community. It is the foundation for the sacramental life.
St. Mark celebrates Baptisms after the Saturday 4:00 pm & Sunday Noon Masses. Catechesis in preparation for Baptism for parents and godparents are offered on Sundays. Classes meet downstairs at 9:15–11:30 am. Dates are listed below:
- 2024: Jun. 9, Jul. 14, Aug. 4, Sep. 8, Oct. 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1
- 2025: Jan 12, Feb. 2, Mar. 2, Apr. 6, May 18
Godparent Requirements
Parent/guardian have the privilege and responsibility and are encouraged to choose two persons (one of each sex) as godparents (for the purpose of this policy, the terms godparents and sponsors are equivalent) for the Baptism of their infant child. Godparents are expected to:
- accompany the parent/guardian during the time of baptismal catechesis;
- present the infant child for baptism;
- be stewards regarding the continuing faith journey of the child;
- assist in guiding the child.
To be admitted to the role of godparent, a person must:
- be designated by the parent/guardian, or in their absence, by the pastor or minister and is to have the qualifications and intention of performing this role;
- be sixteen years old unless the pastor or minister has granted an exception for just cause;
- be a fully initiated Catholic (has been baptized, confirmed and has received the sacrament of Holy Communion, if married, married in the Catholic Church) and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on;
- not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared;
- not be the father or mother of the one to be baptized;
- present a letter from their pastor attesting that they are a practicing Catholic.
A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic Christian church may be present for the Baptism as a Christian witness if there is also a Catholic godparent.
If the role of godparent cannot be fulfilled, the baptism can and should take place.

Eucharist

First Holy Communion Catechesis:
Celebrating the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time should be an integral part of the ongoing religious experience of a child. Receiving First Communion further initiates a child into the life of the Christian community.
Confirmation
The sacrament of Confirmation strengthens the baptized and obliges them more firmly to be witnesses of Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith. It imprints a character, enriches by the gifts of the Holy Spirit the baptized continuing on the path of Christian initiation, and binds them more perfectly to the Church.

Confirmation Sponsor Requirements
Candidates must choose a suitable sponsor who will accompany them and meet the following requirements:
- Have been chosen by the candidate personally and have a significant relationship with the candidate
- Have attained the age of sixteen (16) unless special circumstances are approved by clergy
- Be a fully initiated, confirmed, practicing Catholic participating in Sunday liturgy, leading a life of strong moral character and faith and not bound by any canonical penalty
- Is not the mother or father of the candidate
Canon law states that it is preferable that the Confirmation sponsor be the baptismal sponsor so the link between Baptism and Confirmation is clearly defined.

Matrimony

Engaged couples should contact the parish office to schedule an appointment with a priest to begin preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage. Preparations may take up to one year. Please call the office upon engagement.
