Why would adults across the world give their time and energy to hang out with middle school and high school youth every week? Because as they watch this remarkable age group build a relationship with Christ and journey along with them through their trials and joys, they realize the reward is greater than their effort.
Core Members are the heart and soul of the youth ministry experience. One of the main tasks of Core Members is to lead small groups. In teams of two or three, Core members facilitate small group discussions and activities during youth group sessions. Session plans should be distributed to Core Members in advance so that they can review and prepare each session for their small group. Core Members typically remain with the same group of youth throughout the entire year. This allows Core Members and youth the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships. Other tasks for Core Members may include helping out with opening and closing prayers, performing skits, or giving witness/catechetical talks to the large group.

“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1
Mentors are teens striving to be intentional disciples of Jesus Christ. As such they understand the importance of spreading the Gospel and leading others to Jesus. Mentors are the heart and soul of the middle school youth ministry experience.
Mentors are High School students who are active in their faith and are striving to live Christian lives. Being further along in their faith than the Middle School students, mentors serve as Christian examples of how to live a virtuous life. They have a love for the youth that is shown through sharing their life with them in small groups, social activities, and retreats.
With other mentors and adults, mentors lead small group discussions and activities at ECHO and CHOSEN. Schedules for the night are distributed to mentors a week in advance so you may review and prepare each session for their small group. Mentors are given the option to volunteer in leading, opening and closing prayers, performing skits, or giving witness/catechetical talks to the large group.
