Eucharist

“We cannot separate our lives from the Eucharist; the moment we do, something breaks…When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host you understand how much Jesus loves you now.”–Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

First Holy Communion Catechesis

Celebrating the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time should be an integral part of the ongoing religious experience of a child. Receiving First Communion further initiates a child into the life of the Christian community.

Parent/guardian will need to provide a copy of the child’s Baptismal certificate if baptized in a Parish other than St Mark.

Parent/guardian and the child must attend and participate in the Sunday Mass every week.

The child must have completed the previous year of formal religious education in a Catholic school OR a parish catechesis program. The parish curriculum must have been completed either at home or in parish classes.

At St. Mark, children in 2nd grade who have completed their 1st grade year of parish catechesis or Catholic School education are eligible to begin catechesis for First Confession/First Holy Communion. Children must make their First Confession prior to their First Holy Communion.

Second graders should be enrolled in our Kindergarten through 5th grade Catechesis program. This program is offered on Sunday mornings 9:00 – 10:00 am and Monday evenings 6 – 7 pm.

If you have a child that is in 3rd grade or older, and has not celebrated First Confession/First Holy Communion, please contact Karol Seydel at 720-348-9700, ext 216.
